Aztec Two Step
April 27 at 8PM – Tickets $23.00 Reserved Seating
Folk & Folk Rock - 40th Anniversary Concert - Since 1971 Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman have been writing and performing songs that helped make their generation’s musical memories. Reviewers have said the critically acclaimed Aztec Two-Step had the “intellectual lyricism” and “ethereal harmonies” of their legendary predecessors, Simon & Garfunkel.
In 1987, the duo's Living in America received the New York Music Award for Best Folk Album and was named in Billboard’s year-end critic’s poll. Aztec Two-Step was the subject of a documentary that aired on PBS in 1999, following numerous appearances on TV and radio shows such as David Letterman, King Biscuit Flour Hour and World Café Live. Real Simple, a popular national lifestyle magazine, named the duo's self-titled debut album one of the top five classic folk albums, joining work by superstars Bob Dylan, Judy Collins, Tom Rush and Phil Ochs.
In January 2012, Fowler and Shulman released Cause & Effect, a new studio CD to commemorate their 40th Anniversary. It is a collection of 16 songs of social significance produced by Paul Guzzone and featuring long-time bassist Fred Holman, who has accompanied the duo on many occasions in their storied history. The album is a combination of re-worked previously recorded songs and newly mined material. Renowned for bringing the folk-rock music of the 1960s into the '70s and beyond, Aztec Two-Step continues to be one of acoustic music’s most respected and popular acts. The duo's ability to impress audiences with intelligent songwriting, dazzling acoustic lead guitar and inspiring harmonies continues not only to endure, but to thrive, 40 years after a chance meeting at an open stage in a Boston coffee house. My Sweet Patootie
May 4 at 8PM – Tickets $15.00 Reserved Seating
"Musical mayhem expertly played and executed by two outstanding musicians…good humoured and quirky songs." (Shining Friends Roots Music, England)
Since 1999, their dazzling solos and joy of live performance have brought fans from Canada, the US and England to their feet at Tanglefoot shows (CFMA "Best Vocal Group" 2007). Today as My Sweet Patootie, Terry Young and Sandra Swannell embrace a forgotten brand of showmanship that's "two parts exemplary musicianship and one part vaudeville comedy." (Driftwood Magazine)
Their clever, off-center original songs have "elements of western swing and old-time music that updates the flapper feel and gives it a real twenty first century pizazz... a delightful sound with a hundred years in it's soul." (FATEA Magazine)
Sandra Swannell's rich alto voice has been described as "hot buttered rum". She is a classically trained violinist/ violist, but her style owes much more to Folk, Jazz and Blues. Her diverse musical background ranges from recording with Canada's legendary Stompin' Tom Connors to writing a series of musical sketches for string orchestra. Sandra was the principal violist of the Georgian Bay Symphony, and fronted the Celtic art-rock band, The Shards before joining Tanglefoot in 2005.
Terry Young's tremendous dexterity and aggressive approach to finger-style guitar has been described as "virtuosic" by BBC critic James Harrox, and "jaw dropping" by the Folk & Music Exchange. During his Tanglefoot years, he gained a reputation as a talented multi-instrumentalist; performing on guitar, mandolin, banjo, and whistles. Terry is also a classically trained tenor and holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Western Ontario.
As My Sweet Patootie, Terry and Sandra have been forging a solid reputation for delivering polished, completely entertaining and memorable live concerts. In October 2011, they were awarded a showcase by the Manitoba Arts Network.

Cobblestone Crossing
May 12 at 8PM – Tickets $12.00 Reserved Seating -
Cobblestone Crossing has been performing for about ten years. Their repertoire includes American nostalgic folk, with a light touch of bluegrass, country, Irish and even an up tempo spiritual or two. You’ll hear music from such icon folk groups as The Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul & Mary, Bill Staines, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John Denver, The New Christy Minstrels, Woody Guthrie, Gordon Lightfoot, The Limelighters, The Irish Rovers, and The Weavers.
Darrell Douglas Varley is the arranger, bass-baritone, banjo, guitar, fiddle & mandolin player of the group. Darrell is a graduate from Eastman School of Music in Rochester. After over 30 years as a radio air personality, Darrell makes the audience feel like “part of the show”.
Brian Shendel picked up playing the bass about fourteen years ago not having played it since college. He sings baritone on occasion but claims that his instrumental performance is more important to the group. Brian is the cheerleader and puts a positive spin on every so so occasion, always has a great one liner and keeps Darrell in line.
Janet L. Varley is an accomplished pianist with ragtime influence. Janet started learning the mandolin in 95 after purchasing a Gibson at an auction. She now doubles on tenor guitar and sings alto. She is also a fan of Tom Leher…That attitude comes in handy.
John Tobias joined Cobblestone Crossing summer of 2010. His has been active in church music in the Triple Cities area for over 20 years as Folk Group, Children’s' Choir/Contemporary Ensemble director at his church. John's background is in Folk/Classic Rock/Christian music. He sings tenor and plays guitar.
With great music, humorous banter, and sing along songs, an evening with Cobblestone Crossing is always a fun and exciting performance that keeps audiences calling for more.

Blues legend - Roy Bookbinder, has earned his stripes.... “The Book” traveled with The Rev. Gary Davis in the 60's, re-discovered Pink Anderson and revived his career in the 70's and has been included in The Blues Who’s Who, and the Big Book of Blues.
Binder was born in Queens, New York, United States. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the Navy and undertook a tour of duty in Europe. He bought his first guitar at a military base in Italy. After his enlistment was up, he returned to New York where he met one of his lifelong friends, Dave Van Ronk. Impressed with his friend's playing, Binder sought out Davis who also lived in New York, and became first a student of Davis and later a chauffeur and tour companion. Much of Binder's original material was based on his time on the road with Davis.
In 1973 he began a partnership with fiddler Fats Kaplin, and they recorded the Git Fiddle Shuffle in 1973. Binder and Kaplin performed together for three years, playing numerous concerts and recording a second album, Ragtime Millionaire in 1977. After this partnership dissolved, Binder began touring the country, living in a motor home, and concentrating on live performances.[1]
Binder has been described as a guitar pickin' hillbilly bluesman, and has released eleven albums. He has performed at most major blues and folk festivals in the U.S. and Europe, including Merlefest. Notables that have shared the stage with Binder include Bonnie Raitt, B.B. King, John Jackson, Sonny Terry, Doc Watson, Ray Charles, and Brownie McGhee. Binder has appeared regularly on Nashville Now, and has been included in Sheldon Harris' book, The Blues Who's Who. Jorma Kaukonen included Roy's songs on his last two Red House Records.
Binder's album, Hillbilly Blues Cats (Rounder), was named as one of the ten most essential acoustic guitar albums of 1992. The 1992 category winners also included Eric Clapton's Unplugged, Lyle Lovett's Joshua Loves Ruth and Neil Young's Harvest Moon.
