The Endicott Performing Arts Center will be holding open auditions for a new play by local

playwright Carson McKenna (Retail, Generations). First And Second Date Blues: A Tale of Modern Love From Icks to Awws, on Tuesday July 14th, at 6:30pm at The Endicott Performing Arts Center.

Directed by: Stefanie Willette, Stage Manager: Nathan Butler, Assistant Direction: Andrew Bailey.

Please prepare a monologue

(1 minute in length) for the audition.

As this is a shorter rehearsal process please also provide any/all conflicts you may have at the time of audition.

Brief Summary: First And Second Date Blues, is a contemporary romantic comedy about the messy realities of modern dating. After an awkward first date, Sabina, a Brooklyn literary agent, and JJ, a well-meaning finance professional, struggle to decide whether they should give each other a second chance. As they navigate advice from friends, lingering feelings for exes, and conflicting ideas about romance, the play explores the difference between chemistry and compatibility, asking whether true love is found in grand passion or in the people who consistently show up for us.

Character Breakdowns:

Sabina

A bookish thirtysomething trying to break her bad habit of going for selfish artists, and date a nice guy for once.

JJ

The thirtysomething nice guy from New Jersey who always double texts, then second guesses himself.

Emma

A thirtysomething diva who never skimps on skin care. She is dating to find a high value husband, having been trained by her Russian mother.

Murph

JJ’s roommate (both in college and currently). He’s considerably more laidback, a lovable stoner trapped in a financially independent guys body.

Juan

Sabina’s ex, the “sexy sculptor from San Sebatián.” He speaks in a hispanic accent and always with dramatic flourish.

Olga

Emma’s flashy Russian mother. She pops into a few scenes, always in a fancy fur coat to dispel some well-intended advice (ie..”you always leave men wanting more”). She’s in her late 50’s not that it’s any of your business!

Luciana

Murph’s sister who’s getting married. She relentlessly asks Murph to find a girlfriend already - always in her thick Jersey accent.

Waiter/Server

The Waiter serves as an observer and occasional catalyst for the awkward and revealing moments of the story.

Rehearsals will begin on Tuesday July 28th from 7:00pm -9:00pm, and will be held every Tuesday & Thursday evening from 7:00pm-9:00pm at the Endicott Performing Arts Center. Some Sunday rehearsals may be added at a later date so please keep that in mind.

Performance Dates: Friday September 4th & Saturday September 5th @ 8pm each night.

Show Week: (Mandatory): will be from Sunday August 30th - Thursday September 3rd.
